Faculty Steward
The Faculty Steward of Teal Residential College for Engineering and Computer Science is a live-in Engineering or Computer Science faculty member who is passionate about living in community and engaging students. The Faculty Steward provides the direction and vision for the college and collaborates with the Hall Director and Program Director to foster academic excellence, intensive faculty-student interaction, and a rich experience steeped in Baylor tradition. A new faculty steward will be hired by fall, 2026.
Dr. Terrell earned his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. In Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He then served as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University in New York, NY. After several years at Columbia, he transitioned to Buffalo, NY, where he served as a Computational Engineer with Sentient Science Corporation. He performed research work in the area of tribology (the study of friction, lubrication, and wear between contacting and sliding surfaces such as gears and bearings).
After several years at Sentient Science Corporation, Dr. Terrell transitioned to Baylor University, where he now serves as a Senior Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering. He teaches a variety of engineering courses at Baylor, including Introduction to Engineering (EGR 1301), Thermodynamics (ME 2345), Thermal-Fluids Laboratory (ME 3145), and Heat Transfer (ME 4345). Dr. Terrell has been recognized for his outstanding teaching several times, including the 2020-21 Outstanding Faculty Award and a 2022-23 Provost’s Baylor Fellow. He also serves as an advisor for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) chapters at Baylor. He is also actively involved in the Waco community through a variety of STEM outreach and summer camps as well as his role as a licensed barber at the Jockey Club Barbershop, one of the oldest barbershops in Waco.
Dr. Terrell is married to his wife Laura. They are the proud parents of four children: Olivia, Camille, Jonathan, and William.
